There is nothing quite like looking at the Moon through a telescope you built yourself.
What you do
- Learn how a telescope works: an objective lens, an eyepiece and the distance between them.
- Build a simple astronomical telescope from the materials provided, with a guide at each step.
- Work out its magnification and test it on a distant object or, in evening sessions, the Moon.
Who it is for
Teens and adults can build independently. Children take part with a parent working alongside them. Pakistan Science Club has run these workshops in person in Karachi and online across Pakistan, typically in a session of about an hour and a half.
Where
Workshops are held at partner venues, as part of astronomy nights, and at the Pakistan Science Club makerspace in Korangi, Karachi, which also runs DIY telescope projects. Groups, families and organisations can book a workshop of their own.
