Building a telescope turns optics from a textbook diagram into something students hold and look through.
What students do
- Learn how a refractor works: an objective lens, an eyepiece and the distance between them.
- Assemble a simple astronomical telescope from the materials provided.
- Work out its magnification and, where the timing allows, test it on the Moon or a distant object.
Format
Pakistan Science Club has run telescope-making workshops in person and online, typically in a session of about an hour and a half. Younger children take part best with an adult helping; teens and adults can build independently. We agree the group size, age range and format with the school.
